Press Release
Queer Karaoke Night is the April Rainbow Gatherings Event

Please register; Queer Karaoke Night Tickets, Friday, Apr 17 from 7 pm to 9 pm | Eventbrite

The next event for the Comox Valley Queer community is set for Friday, April 17th, and it is a
return of the great fun had at last year’s Karaoke Night – so bring your best singing voice and be
ready to pick a tune and show us what you’ve got! Karaoke is the Queer community in song, it
is a channel of catharsis. To deepen the building of relationships in the Queer community, we’re
inviting you to share why the song you choose is meaningful to you, or comes from a special
time in your life.
We are hoping the DJ for this event will be Patti Savard who has hosted very successful
Karaoke events for the Queer community for several years. The Comox Valley’s own Patti
Savard is a witty, charismatic, trans comedian who also runs a fine karaoke event.
Patti Savard is freshly back from Scotland where she performed in the International debut of her
one woman show “Life in Transition”. She was nominated for the Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of
Glasgow Award.
And this month’s event is setting up to be marvellous, welcoming, inclusive and affirming, not to
mention it is also free, booked on Event Brite:

Ben Wang of the Bayside Bistro is offering his regular menu for purchase for those needing a
little sustenance and something to slake their thirst. The menu includes a number of sushi and
maki rolls, several onigiri items, and a variety of combos which includes spring rolls, steam buns,
gyoza and dumplings.
As with each monthly edition of the Rainbow Gatherings, there will be a variety of ages,
orientations, preferences, and, of course, perspectives.
These events are a gift to the queer community to encourage intergenerational gatherings and
sharing that build community and are fun and engaging. Because of their historically negative
history with churches, many members of the queer community have a warranted concern around
church sponsored events. Consequently, the Rainbow Gatherings are held off-site, and
specifically have no proselytizing or evangelizing permitted, or carried out, at these events.
The first of this year’s monthly offerings was held last September. It was completely n oncompetetive
softball game at Lewis Park.
Bayside Bistro is at 2760 Cliffe Ave, Unit #5, across Cliffe Avenue from the Driftwood Mall.
