SPECIAL REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF FUNDS: JOHNSTON BEQUEST
For many years, Joy and Art Johnston were active members in the Comox Valley Unitarian
Fellowship Their passion for encouraging connecting our Fellowship to the wider Unitarian
Universalist community led them to create a fund to support CVUF Members and/or Friends
(who are listed on our Fellowship Directory and have made a financial contribution of record or
commitment of time in the last two years, prior to their application) participation in Unitarian
events beyond the Comox Valley.
The types of events/gatherings the fund will support include retreats at Sasamat and
Bethlehem Centres, Eliot Institute Camps, Canadian Unitarian Council (CUC) Annual
Meeting, other national and regional CUC and Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA)
sponsored online and in-person events, training (e.g. Soul Matters, Our Whole Lives),
and workshops and events held at other Fellowships. Note: that these are examples
and not an exhaustive list.
● ALL applications must be pre-approved by the Board.
● Please notify the treasurer cvuftreas@gmail.com prior to registering, please include
your expected cost, name and date of the event.
● $3,000.00 annual limit, per person, per calendar year.

To be reimbursed (following your attendance*) for registration, travel and other expenses
related to participation in a Unitarian gathering, workshop or event held outside of the Comox
Valley, please fill out the following SPECIAL REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF FUNDS:

We encourage everyone attending eligible events to apply for reimbursement. For those who
are able, we encourage you to consider donating all or part of your reimbursed funds back to
the Fellowship to support the Johnston Legacy fund. Please specify that title in your donation.
*If you are unable to carry the amount paid until after the event please contact the Board
Treasurer cvuftreas@gmail.com
*If, after registering for the event, you do not attend you will not be reimbursed unless you
were unable to attend due to illness or another unexpected emergency.

expected to return the Johnston Bequest funds, unless you were unable to attend due to
illness or another unexpected emergency.
At the May 26, 2024 AGM the Fellowship agreed, by general consensus, that the distribution
of these funds will be at the Board’s discretion.
