Adult Religious Exploration
Adult Religious Explorations (A.R.E.)
Programs and workshops are open to all members and friends of the CV Unitarian Fellowship. Many programs are also advertised and offered to the Comox Valley general community.
In conjunction, with the worship Committee, the ARE Committee periodically offers workshops that are facilitated by a Sunday speaker. This past year, we have offered workshops on spirituality, voluntary simplicity, story-telling and chanting. Previously offered A.R.E. workshops include Unplug the Christmas Machine, Story-telling, and Tibetan Buddhist introduction to Death and Dying.
These short term (four – eight weeks) study/discussion programs are offered at various times during the year. Small groups of six – twelve participants provide an opportunity to learn about a specific topic and to get to know other participants. In the past the Welcoming Congregation (gay and gender issues), Deep Ecology, Spirituality in Every Day Life, Ethics, various Women’s spirituality and other courses have been held.
Chalice Circles
Chalice Circles, or Unitarian Small Group Ministry discussion groups, meet for one to two years with the same participants. The main purpose of these groups is to develop close personal bonds. Their secondary purpose is to discuss topics chosen by members, and which have a spiritual dimension. Each member may have the opportunity to host a meeting, provide a reading, or facilitate a session if desired; it is enough to be a respectful, responsive participant. There are currently four Chalice groups that meet once or twice a month. New members are welcome, and do not need to be members of the Fellowship. When a Circle gets too large, however, it divides into two groups.
Any one interested in learning more about Chalice Circles, or any of our other small group programs may leave a message on the Unitarian phone, 250-890-9262, and a member of the A.R.E. Committee will respond.
Book Club
The book club meets once a month on the last Sunday of the month at 7pm at the United Church in Comox. We are a dynamic group who enjoy lively thought provoking discussions on a variety of books. We welcome everyone. For more information contact Lynda at 250-339-7976.
